The Vintage:
The 2023 vintage in the Barossa Valley was a very long cool but thankfully dry year. The cool season with extended the grapes having extended time on the vine produced wines with great concentration of flavours, balanced acidity, and fine tannins. Shiraz was the star of the show, with wines that are full-bodied and complex, yet also elegant and refined.
The Vineyards:
Sourced from multiple old vine vineyards (average 50+ year old) across the Western Ridge, from our home block in Marananga, Greenock and Seppeltsfield. All picked on separate dates when the fruit was optimally ripe.
The Winemaking:
The grapes are hand and machine harvested. Each parcel of grapes fermented separately in open fermenters, prior to pressing to tank. The fermentation is completed in tank before the wine is racked to barrel. The wine is aged in a selection of French (15% new) and American oak for 16 months before blending and bottling.
96 / 100 Vino Masters
Deep garnet with a rich, concentrated core. The nose is layered and inviting, revealing dark berry fruits, chocolate, mocha and subtle savoury notes that speak to the blend of old vine vineyards across Marananga, Greenock and Seppeltsfield. On the palate it is full-bodied and structured, with generous dark fruits, fine tannins and excellent depth, all supported by balanced French and American oak. The collaboration between Tom White and Rolf Binder brings both precision and classic Barossa power, resulting in a wine of real presence and complexity. The finish is long, smooth and satisfying with genuine cellaring potential.
★★★★★ A powerful yet refined Western Ridge Shiraz that showcases the best of these historic Barossa sub-regions.
