2024 1920's Vineyard Shiraz

$85.00

Our new icon vineyard from the northern part of the Barossa Valley in the famed sub region of Moppa Springs or Moppa! Planted in 1920, 100% hand harvested, 20% whole bunch with the rest whole berries (ie no crushing of fruit just destemming). Traditionally open fermented with twice daily pump overs, after approximately 12 days its pressed to French and USA oak 40% new and the rest seasoned. It spends 18 months in barrel before blending and resting for a while prior to bottling which is done with out any fining or filtration.

Pure Shiraz flavours of dark and red berry fruits and chocolate are balanced with soft velvety tannins that linger very well on the palate. It is a rich and full-bodied wine that highlights classic Barossa Shiraz.

This wine will age gracefully for many years and pays homage to the veteran Barossa growers who have treated these very old vines with great respect to enable the future generations to reap the rewards.

2018 Vintage - 96 points Halliday Wine Companion

Fruit from Vine Vale. Matured in new and seasoned American oak barrels. Rolf Binder puts it better than I can: 'Tended for many years by the wily old grower, Vic Kraft, these ancestry, low-yielding vines produce grapes that have uniqueness gnarled into them.' Chinese five-spice, incense and supple tannins tell the story of grand old vines, at once effortlessly enticing and infused with timeless endurance. Top-class American oak sets it off impeccably, heightening its milk chocolate mood. The finish holds to kingdom come. Drink to 2043

2018 Vintage - 95 points James Suckling

From a parcel on Magnolia Road, planted in the 1890s, this has a subtly earthy array of violets and blueberries with some blackcurrants and pastry. The palate has a very elegant feel with such long, linear and centrally contained tannins. Long, blackberry and blueberry flavours here. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
